So one day, Toomz asked me if I knew of anything rare that could be potential material for this blog here. I immediately thought of the bay area's greatest hardcore band to ever exist: Scissorhands. Bear witness to the dark high pitched fury that spanned from 2001-2003. Ignore that members have since gone on to do Jealous Again, Dispute, Wolves & Thieves, and Ceremony. Just remember the Nerve Agents meets AFI style that this band took and flew to new heights with, breaking barriers on the expectations put upon them.

Hardluck was a hardstyle norcal hc band from around the turn of the decade. when i use terms like "turn of the decade", it makes me sound old as hell. i wasnt lucky enough to see them, and chances are you probably weren't either. Dudes went on to do Time For Living, Modern Eyes, and that one big band I don't feel like name dropping. Big shout out to my man Donny Shot! If you like wearing basketball jerseys and shorts to shows, you'll dig this stuff. Real talk, I know I do.

No Truce - Full Length

1. Glacier
2. 9 Nails
3. Victimized
4. The New American Slave Trade
5. The Binding Of The Wolf
6. Sleep Is The Cousin Of Death
7. Hell On Earth
8. Serpentine
9. Extraction Point
10. Scourge Of The World

One of the best hardcore bands from Salinas, California. No Truce were one of the most honest bands I'd ever heard, with a lot of lyrics about isolation and lost hope that a fellow like myself could get into. This full length never saw an official release. They broke up and decided to just upload it online. Sad really, they could've gone really really far.

Murder Practice - Promo

1. Sonny Chiba
2. Backdoor Stardom
3. Survival at Sea

this band became super P.C. hardcore punk after the cd these songs ended up on. however, they were quite the tough guys during this stage in the band. if you are into the breakdowns and hating stuff this is for you. got this at one of my first hardcore shows. it happened to be All Shall Perish's 1st record release show. which i should post....

this album was the first hardcore album i ever owned. i got it when i was 13 or 14 in front of rasputins in berkeley. there used to be a table with 1 dollar promo cds. amongst all the other possible rare gems, i happen to grab this one. metallic, fast, and pissed. a better description of this album and the bands career can be found here with a comment posted by a member of the band. when i first slapped this record i had no idea how to feel about it. was it metal? was it punk? are they christians? one thing i knew was that this cd ripped. this cd gets better with every passing track. crust punks, wave your pit bulls jubilantly over your dreaded head over this anarchy fueled metalcore!

another california hardcore treasure and it is somewhat rare. this is Link 80: skacore. sounds funky, right!? well it is a combination that im sure that very few will like, but when you hear the trumpet breakdown im sure you will be interested at the least. i have a physical copy of this album that i think i threw away in a rage...fuck. this release is a fun, fast, and ska album. if you like any ska, then you need to have this. what i found funny about this cd, when i got it i wasn't aware of who they were. i just saw a map of the bay with some punk shit so i bought it. inside, it thanks Hoods, All Bets Off, OBHC, etc. so i listen to it and to be honest with you, i was surprised.

so you are from the bay area and you think you know shit about hardcore. what!? you have never heard of All Bets Off!? FUCKING SHOCKING! most older hardcore cats know whats up with All Bets Off. they are kinda the first thing you remember when thinking of 90's hardcore in the bay (along with powerhouse, oppressed logic, etc). this band managed to change their sound almost every cd. still hardcore, just different types. kinda cool if you ask me. their fans were diverse and everyone who went to the gilman, slaughter house, where ever had a fucking blast. this release has one of my favorite songs by them. ill post more ABO at some point, but i have to get ready for work. mosh on, wayne.
